In Progress: Spaghetti Circus Storage Shed

This project is being completed to replace the old damaged shipping containers used by Spaghetti Circus.

Fig Tree Gove

The Fig Tree grove at the Showgrounds is much loved by the community. The Showground Land Manager obtains regular assessment of the trees by qualified professional arborists following some of the trees succumbing to the ravages of 'Brown Root Rot'.  Two of the trees have had to be removed following this diagnosis, and another has been identified as being diseased and will need to be removed in the next 12 months.

Many Farmers Market goers will recall one of the figs falling back in 2017, falling onto the market precinct during trade.  Thankfully, the area had been evacuated following a tip off from a young boy.

The Showground Land Manager has undertaken treatment of the trees with the help of Consulting Arborist, Peter Grey (an expert on Brown Root Rot).

We thank the community for their great interest and care of our beautiful trees.

Flying Fox Mitigation

With the new colony of Flying Foxes in the trees down at the waterhole and the newly replaced perimeter fencing, which included 3 strands of barbed wire on top, it became apparent that mitigation works were needed to protect the flying foxes.

The old perimeter fence was constructed 25 years earlier but was severely damaged in the 2022 Floods. The new fence was a like for like replacement from the old and was covered through insurance. However with the newly emerging flying fox population there was, unfortunately, a Flying fox injured after construction.

In partnership with the Byron Shire Biodiversity team we were able to work with them to mitigate the dangers to the Flying Foxes. This mitigation was the installation of tags in the danger area that will help the Flying Foxes avoid the danger.
